I make hand-built ceramic sculptures with a visual density of pattern, imagery, and detail. Rather than edit down to the minimal, I embrace the complexity of our visual surroundings. My current work is inspired by the intersections between the natural and constructed landscape; the pulse of the city, with its organized and chaotic networks and systems, energizes me.
I gather visual information from the San Francisco and Oakland landscapes that I have called home over the last 15 years. I think of my sculptures as three-dimensional collages, where I am layering a chain of ideas to create a cohesive whole. My finished pieces are an accumulation of fragments from which new connections can be formed.
